About Seersucker… Ever since the original cotton fabric found its name in English from the Hindustani, which in turn was a derivation of the Persian words “shir o shekar”, translated as “milk and sugar” (probably from its resemblance to the smooth texture of milk and bumpy texture of sugar), true seersucker has been distinguished by its wrinkled appearance, caused by a weave that bunches threads together.
